The economic, commercial and financial blockade remains the central element that has defined the policy of the United States (U.S.) toward Cuba for more than six decades. It is an act of unilateral aggression, a permanent threat to the stability of the country and a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of all Cubans.

Free, universal and quality medical care for all the people has been one of the main conquests and priorities of the Cuban Revolution. In spite of this, the economic, commercial and financial blockade is increasingly affecting the health sector, seriously threatening the quality of life and well-being of the Cuban people.

Cuba appeals for a comprehensive reform of the Security Council that makes it a transparent, democratic and representative body.

Ambassador Yuri A. Gala López addressed the plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly for the presentation of the annual report of the Security Council. Stated that the Security Council must stop expanding the scope of the definition of international peace and security, to the detriment of the functions and responsibilities of the General Assembly.
