Cuba participates in the 10th Meeting of the States Parties to the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage

Paris, 17 June. On 16 and 17 June, the Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO actively participated in the 10th Meeting of the States Parties (COP10) to the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, held at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris.

During the meeting, the States Parties reviewed the progress made in the implementation of this Convention, which is unique of its kind at the international level, and discussed key actions to strengthen international cooperation and the effective protection of submerged cultural assets.

The United States and Israel will have to respond to the consequences of an unjustified war against Iran Declaration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba

Havana, June 13. Cuba vigorously condemns the attacks perpetrated by Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Cuban Government observes with extreme concern the events taking place in the Middle East and strongly condemns the attacks perpetrated by Israel in the early hours of morning on June 13, 2025 and the threat of war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and International Law, including the principles of sovereignty and the no threat or use of force against the territorial integrity of any State.

Cuba participates in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme

Paris, 12 June. The Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO took part in the main events marking the 50th anniversary of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) and the 60th anniversary of the International Geoscience Programme, held at the Organization’s Headquarters, which included a commemorative session in Room I and a side event dedicated to youth participation in water science.

Trinidad, Cuba’s Creative City, hosts event on sustainable tourism and heritage

Paris, 7 June 2025. The city of Trinidad, recognized as a UNESCO Creative City and inscribed on the World Heritage List since 1988, hosted a regional workshop that brought together specialists, community representatives and local authorities to discuss and strengthen sustainable tourism practices in heritage sites.

Director-General of UNESCO visits Cuba’s stand at the Latin America and Caribbean Week

Paris, 6 June 2025. The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, visited Cuba’s stand during the final day of the Latin America and Caribbean Week celebrations, showing particular interest in the results of the project “Flora: La botica de la abuela” and the work promoted by the UNESCO UNITWIN Chair at the University of Havana.

Ms. Azoulay held an exchange with Dr. Rodolfo Arencibia and MSc. Yisniel Troche, who lead the Cuban initiative showcased on this occasion. The importance of researching and promoting ancestral knowledge about medicinal plants and natural medicine — passed down from generation to generation and preserved as part of Cuba’s biocultural wealth — was at the heart of the conversation.
