Cuba Denounces the Impact of the U.S. Blockade during the Regional Consultation on the World Heritage Strategy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

Paris, 16 September 2025. — The Republic of Cuba actively participated in the regional virtual consultation organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, aimed at key stakeholders from the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean. The meeting sought to contribute to the design of the new World Heritage Strategy for SIDS and to define the next steps in its development.

In her analysis of the main threats and weaknesses, the Cuban representative referred to the negative impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which hinders access to materials, technologies, and international funding necessary for heritage conservation. This context —she added— increases maintenance costs, hampers scientific and cultural cooperation, and limits opportunities for training and academic mobility.

Cuba actively participates in the Preparatory Meeting for the 222nd Session of UNESCO’s Executive Board

Paris, 11 September 2025 — Cuba, as a Member State of UNESCO’s Executive Board, actively participated on 10 and 11 September in the meeting of the Preparatory Group for the 222nd session of the Executive Board, during which Member States analyzed the main issues that will shape the upcoming debates in October, particularly the Organization’s complex financial situation.

Cuba Reaffirms Commitment to the Fight against Doping in Sport at Informative Meeting Ahead of COP10

Paris, 3 September 2025. — As part of the preparations for the Tenth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, to be held at UNESCO Headquarters from 20 to 22 October 2025, the Secretariat of the Convention convened a preparatory information meeting aimed at updating the States Parties on the topics and organizational aspects of the upcoming biennial conference.

During its intervention, the Cuban delegation reaffirmed Cuba’s political will to strengthen national actions in the fight against doping, highlighting the recent approval of the Law on the Cuban Sports System, which reinforces the legal framework and promotes values of ethics, inclusion, and fair play. The representative also underscored the country’s commitment to the Convention’s monitoring mechanism and pointed out the challenges imposed by the U.S. blockade, which hinders access to resources and international sporting opportunities.

Cuba celebrates a new anniversary of its accession to UNESCO

Paris, 29 August 2025. On this date, Cuba commemorates another anniversary of its accession to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which took place on 29 August 1947. Since then, the country has maintained an active and committed participation in the Organization’s programs and mechanisms, guided by the principles of multilateralism, cooperation, and the promotion of knowledge in support of sustainable development.

US Military Deployment in the Caribbean Sea Threatens the Region Under Absurd Pretexts

Havana, 28 August 2025. The Cuban Government strongly rejects the current deployment of United States military forces in the Caribbean Sea. This dangerous action represents a serious threat and an aggressive show of force against the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean. Furthermore, it ignores the commitment of the 33 Member States of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States when they proclaimed the region as a Zone of Peace.
