Paris, 7 July 2025. In the framework of the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee, the Cuban delegation held working meetings with officials and technical teams from the World Heritage Centre responsible for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as with the unit in charge of nominations, with the aim of following up on cooperation matters and ongoing projects.
Paris, 6 July 2025. A Cuban delegation is participating in the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee, held at UNESCO Headquarters from 6 to 16 July, in its capacity as a State Party to the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
During the debate on the activities of the World Heritage Centre and the implementation of the Committee’s decisions, Cuba shared its national experiences in the preservation and sustainable management of its cultural and natural heritage.
The delegation called for greater international solidarity in addressing global challenges that endanger humanity’s heritage, condemning armed conflicts that threaten sites inscribed on the World Heritage List. In this regard, Cuba denounced the genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the ongoing aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which severely restricts the country’s access to resources and technologies essential for heritage protection and restoration.
Paris, 5 July 2025. On the occasion of the 214th anniversary of the Independence of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, an official ceremony of commemoration and tribute to Liberator Simón Bolívar was held this Saturday in Paris, at the Promenade du Cours de la Reine, where his monument stands.
The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Venezuela to UNESCO, Rodulfo Pérez, and Martha Bolívar, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in France. Representing Cuba were Justo Enrique Rodríguez Rodríguez, Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission of Cuba in France and Chargé d’Affaires a.i., and Laura Alvarez Delgado, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO.
Paris, 3 July 2025. With the participation of the Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO, the 33rd Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) concluded today, after being held from 25 June to 3 July at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris. The meeting brought together representatives of Member States, experts and international organizations to discuss key developments and challenges in ocean science and the sustainable management of marine resources.
Cuba’s participation in this Assembly reaffirms its longstanding commitment to international scientific cooperation and the sustainable management of marine ecosystems. The country actively contributes to strengthening knowledge networks, capacity-building initiatives, and the promotion of science in service of ocean conservation, in line with the principles of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
