Samarkand, Uzbekistan, 30 October — The 43rd UNESCO General Conference officially opened on 30 October, taking place for the first time in four decades outside the Organization’s Paris headquarters. The historic city of Samarkand is hosting delegations from 181 countries, in a meeting marked by the conclusion of the term of office of Director-General Audrey Azoulay and the election of her successor.
New York, 29 October 2025. – Cuba achieved a resounding victory in the United Nations General Assembly, with 167 countries endorsing its call for the immediate and definitive end to the economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed by the United States. Neither the pressures, the deceptive maneuvers of the empire, nor the toxicity of digital platforms and oligarchic media could overshadow the force of Cuba’s truth, which once again triumphed in the plenary, while the US delegation remained isolated in its own labyrinth of fallacies and contradictions.
Paris, 21 October – Within the framework of the Tenth Conference of the Parties (COP10) to the Convention against Doping in Sport, the Cuban representative, José Cedeño Tamayo, held a meeting with UNESCO’s Director of Sport, Philipp Müller-Wirth, with the aim of exchanging views on the main lines of work and ongoing projects in the field of Physical Education and Sport.
Paris, 20 October 2025.– Cuba is participating in the 10th International Convention against Doping in Sport, organized by UNESCO, taking place from 20 to 22 October in Paris, France. The Convention serves as a forum for analysis, debate and decision-making aimed at strengthening the International Convention against Doping in Sport and international cooperation in this field.
During the working sessions, the Cuban delegation denounced the negative effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States, which directly impacts the implementation of anti-doping programmes and the fulfilment of the country’s international commitments. These unilateral coercive measures restrict access to financial resources, equipment, technologies, specialized supplies and normal mechanisms of cooperation, unfairly affecting sports institutions and athletes.
Paris, 16 October – The Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO highlighted the negative impact of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States, as well as the inclusion of Cuba on the unilateral list of alleged State Sponsors of Terrorism, on the financial situation of the Organization.
During the debates on Financial Matters, the Cuban Delegation denounced that these unilateral coercive measures affect not only Cuba, but also the regular functioning of multilateral international organizations. In this regard, it was emphasized that the U.S. blockade hinders, even, UNESCO’s ability to receive the corresponding financial contribution from Cuba as a Member State.
