DESPITE THE BLOCKADE AND AGGRESSIVE MEASURES OF THE US GOVERNMENT, CUBA SHOWS SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS AND IMPROVES ITS EDUCATION SYSTEM

Paris, August 6, 2024. The “Casa Cuba” in Tremblay, France, offered an important space to discuss Cuba’s achievements in education. In her presentation on the subject, Dr. Silvia María Navarro Quintero, General Director of the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences, masterfully described the conception and development of the different levels of education in the country, from early childhood education to higher education, including special education, technical and professional education, adult education, and pedagogical training.

The blockade and the unjust presence of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism hinder the country's efforts in the sphere of education and cooperation with UNESCO

Paris, August 1, 2024. The assistant director general of UNESCO for Education, Stefania Giannini, received in Paris the general director of the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences of Cuba, Dr. Silvia María Navarro Quintero. The Cuban ambassador to UNESCO María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro also participated. It was widely addressed the negative impact of the hostile policy of the US government towards Cuba, highlighting the especially harmful effects of the unjust inclusion of the Island on the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

UNESCO: CALLS CONTINUE TO REMOVE CUBA FROM THE LIST OF COUNTRIES ALLEGED SPONSORS OF TERRORISM

“The delegations of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Republic of Cuba, the Republic of Nicaragua and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela accredited to UNESCO demand the exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism

“In that sense, we reaffirm the Declaration of the XXIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) held in Caracas, Venezuela, on April 24 of 2024, which is attached, in particular its paragraphs 8 and 9”.

The Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 and China at UNESCO demand the exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.

Paris, July 16, 2024. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Group of 77 and China UNESCO Chapters demanded the exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

Through a Joint Communiqué, widely circulated at this headquarters, the G77 and China and the NAM UNESCO Chapters expressed their support for the Declaration of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), issued on June 14 in New York, which demands the withdrawal of Cuba from the aforementioned list and the lifting of all unilateral coercive measures against the Cuban people.

“The Group of 77 and China and the Non-Aligned Movement UNESCO Chapters express deep concern about the negative impact of Cuba's unjust permanence on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, which worsens the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against the country for more than 60 years, affecting all sectors of the country's life, in particular the spheres of education, science, communication, information and culture; as well as the implementation of cooperation programs in these areas”.

UNJUST INCLUSION OF CUBA ON THE LIST OF STATES SPONSORING TERRORISM HINDERS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF UNESCO COOPERATION PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY

The visit to the headquarters of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana, Mrs. Anne Lemaistre, offered an important space for a broad exchange with the Ambassador of Cuba Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro on the development of UNESCO cooperation programs in the Antillean country, the progress and obstacles to their implementation.
