Paris, 7 June 2025. The city of Trinidad, recognized as a UNESCO Creative City and inscribed on the World Heritage List since 1988, hosted a regional workshop that brought together specialists, community representatives and local authorities to discuss and strengthen sustainable tourism practices in heritage sites.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, visited Cuba’s stand during the final day of the Latin America and Caribbean Week celebrations, showing particular interest in the results of the project “Flora: La botica de la abuela” and the work promoted by the UNESCO UNITWIN Chair at the University of Havana.
Ms. Azoulay held an exchange with Dr. Rodolfo Arencibia and MSc. Yisniel Troche, who lead the Cuban initiative showcased on this occasion. The importance of researching and promoting ancestral knowledge about medicinal plants and natural medicine — passed down from generation to generation and preserved as part of Cuba’s biocultural wealth — was at the heart of the conversation.
Paris, 5 June 2025. Under the title “El son diverso y nuestro”, Cuban son became the protagonist of this Thursday’s session at the Latin America and Caribbean Week at UNESCO. The activity was organized by the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cuba to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, together with Mr. Dominique Roland, filmmaker and Director of the Centre des Arts d’Enghien-les-Bains, hosts of the event.
In her opening remarks, the Ambassador invited those present on a sensory journey through the history of Cuban son, through a multidisciplinary experience that combined live music, dance and documentary fragments.
Paris, 5 June 2025. As part of the celebrations for the Latin America and Caribbean Week at UNESCO, the traditional “Bar à Mojito Cubain” opened its doors this Thursday, reaffirming itself as one of the most anticipated and popular gatherings for visitors each year.
Located in front of the Miró 3 Room, the bar welcomed guests from 17:00, offering them the chance to taste the authenticity of Cuban light rum through the island’s iconic national cocktail: the mojito. This proposal has become an invitation to discover not only the freshness and unique flavour of this drink, but also the cultural and heritage wealth that sustains its history.
Paris, 4 June 2025. The Cuban delegation participating in UNESCO’s Latin America and the Caribbean Week was received by Ms. Inga Nichanian, Director of the UNESCO Chairs Programme and the UNITWIN Network.
Dr. Rodolfo Arencibia presented the two-year work results of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Havana on “Medicinal Plants for Biodiversity Preservation through Sustainable Development”. Ms. Inga Nichanian, Director of the UNESCO Chairs Programme and UNITWIN Network, commended the activism of this Cuban Chair. She also conveyed her gratitude to the national authorities for their longstanding support of this and other UNESCO Chairs.
