The Deputy Director General of UNESCO, Mr. Xing Qu welcomed the Cuban ambassador to the Organization, Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, in the framework of a cordial meeting in which both discussed at length the links between Cuba and the Organization. The Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to thank the senior official for UNESCO's support in the battle against the blockade, and elaborated on the damage caused to the Cuban people by the application of this policy, aggravated after the inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism. Her counterpart acknowledged being aware of the difficulties and challenges that Cuba faced as a result of the blockade, and conveyed his admiration for the country's progress despite these obstacles.

At the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the Ambassador of Cuba Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro met with the Assistant Director General of UNESCO for Natural Sciences, Ms. Lidia Brito, on which occasion they exchanged widely on the close relations between the Island and the international Organization, especially in the area of ​​science. In the cordial meeting, Mrs. Brito recognized the development of science and scientific work in Cuba, a context in which the Cuban diplomat recalled the words of the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, when on January 15, 1960 in the speech delivered at the Academy of Sciences he expressed that the future of Cuba had to necessarily be a future of men of science.
