Cuban Culture Day celebrated in Jamaica

Mandeville, 22 October 2025. The North Caribbean University (NCU) hosted the main event for Cuban Culture Day in Jamaica. The event was presided by the President of the university and the Ambassador of Cuba, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez. Representatives of the state mission, Cuban residents linked to the education sector, as well as professors and students from the NCU and other educational centres in the region were present.

Vietnam – Cuba rice project bears “golden seeds” of friendship

After 23 years of implementation (2002–2025), the Vietnam – Cuba cooperation project on rice production (VIBA) has achieved remarkable success, helping the Caribbean nation move toward food security and self-sufficiency. Speaking at the project review ceremony in Varadero town of Matanzas province, Cuba’s Minister of Agriculture Ydael Perez Brito described it as an epitome of effective partnership and shared efforts between the two nations.

Launched in 2002, the project covered four rice-growing regions across 11 Cuban provinces. In its 2024–2025 phase, yields of fresh unhusked rice averaged 5.8 tonnes per hectare, 2.5 times higher than the traditional local output and surpassing the project’s initial target of 5 tonnes.

Cuban Ambassador pays working visit to Croatia

Zagreb, October 23, 2025. The Cuban Ambassador to Croatia, concurrently accredited to Vienna, Austria, paid a working visit to Croatia on October 22 and 23.

As part of the visit, he held meetings with officials from the Croatian Foreign Ministry, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and how to further improve them. The talks took place in the cordial atmosphere that characterizes relations between the two countries.

Chinese National Extradited to Mexico at the Request of That Country

On October 23, 2025, in response to a formal extradition request and following a decision by the Cuban government, Chinese national Zhi Dong Zhang was transferred to the authorities of the Government of Mexico.

Mr. Zhang had been detained in Cuba on July 31, 2025, for offenses committed on Cuban territory, namely forgery of documents and human trafficking, as defined under the Cuban Penal Code, and was held under provisional detention.
