During a very special meeting, the Ambassador of Cuba, Beatriz Parra González, received Mr. Peter Fagerman, grandnephew of Fabian Fagerman, a Finnish citizen who joined the Liberation Army of Cuba between 1995 and 1998, under the command of Brigadier General Enrique Loynaz del Castillo. In the exchange, the original and perfectly preserved document was shown that reflects the granting of the "Independence Medal" delivered by the then President of the Republic of Cuba, Mario García Menocal, with which Lieutenant Fabian Fagerman is recognized for providing his services in the Cuban War of Independence. The Ambassador invited Sr. Peter to share the story at the upcoming celebration of the 95th Anniversary of the Establishment of Relations between Cuba and Finland, due to its extraordinary relevance for the ties between both nations and their peoples.

The Cuban Embassy in Finland welcomes the election of the new President of the Finland-Cuba Association, Matti Siltala, as well as the new members who join its board. We thank Paula, Tomi and Pia for the enormous push made in the last period, particularly during the celebration of the organization's 60th Anniversary. This Monday, Ambassador Beatriz Parra González received H.E. Mr. Ari Maki, Ambassador designated by Finland in Cuba, attending from Mexico. During the exchange, both authorities talked about topics of interest for the bilateral agenda, in the context of the 95th Anniversary of relations between Cuba and Finland. The Cuban diplomat conveyed to her counterpart the Island's gratitude for Finland's support in its demand against the United States embargo, the worsening effects of which the country is currently facing.

During an interesting meeting, the Ambassador of Cuba, Beatriz Parra González, spoke with Mr. Pekka Savinen, Professor of the renowned University of Applied Sciences, Haaga-Helia of Helsinki. In the exchange, the Ambassador learned details of the collaboration agreement that existed in the eighties between Cuba and Finland, which allowed Professor Savinen and about twenty scholarship holders, their preparation in Cuban educational centers. Likewise, Parra was interested in learning about the important institution in which he now works and the possibilities of generating collaborative projects in the near future between both countries.
