Azerbaijan commemorates 166 anniversary of the birth of the National Hero of Cuba and 60 of the Triumph of the Revolution

The Association of Friendship Azerbaijan - Cuba and the Embassy of the Island in this Caucasian nation commemorated the 166th Anniversary of the birth of José Martí and the 60th of the Triumph of the Revolution with the realization of an exhibition of paintings in which Azerbaijani children reflected the history , the culture and traditions of the Cuban nation and the figures of the National Hero and the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Conference in honor to the 166th Anniversary of the Birth of José Martí at the National University of Mongolia.

Ulan Bator, Mongolia. January 28, 2019. In honor to the 166th Anniversary of the Birth of our Apostle José Martí, a lecture was given at the National University of Mongolia, by the Cuban Ambassador Raúl Delgado Concepción in coordination with the Chair of Diplomatic Studies of said center high studies. Professors and academics from that faculty participated and members of the Association of Mongolian Graduates in Cuba also were among the audience.

Trinidadians and Cubans pay tribute to José Martí

Port of Spain, January 28th – The Alma Jordan Library of the University of the West Indies (UWI) of Trinidad and Tobago, served as host of a small but moving event in tribute to Jose Marti on the occasion of the 166th anniversary of his birth. 

 

The event in tribute to the Master, was done in collaboration between the Library and the Cuban Embassy which was headed by Mr. Frank Soodeen, Head Librarian of the Alma Jordan Library and the Ambassador-designate, Tania Diego Olite. Also, present was, the staff of the Cuban Embassy, members of the solidarity and social movements with Cuba, Trinidadian personalities and members of the Cuban community in the Caribbean country. All united by the common feeling of honoring the most universal of Cubans, his work and prodigal thought.

Cuban Ambassador to Uzbekistan met with Minister of Physical Culture and Sports

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, held a working meeting with the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of this Central Asian nation, Dilmurod Nabiyev.

During the official meeting, held at the Uzbek Ministry, the ambassador congratulated the incumbent on his appointment as Minister and explained various ways to develop cooperation in the sports field.

Cuban Ambassador visits the historic Uzbek region of Samarkand

Invited by Uzbek authorities, the Cuban ambassador, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, visited the city of Samarkand, the second city of Uzbekistan, declared a World Heritage Site in 2001 and registered as "Crossroads of cultures."

During the tour, the Cuban diplomat valued the conservation and restoration works carried out in this city, considered one of the oldest in the world, still inhabited.

News media from Uzbekistan such as National News Agency, Aki Press and Darakchi.uz, among others, reported on the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov, and the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo.

It is highlighted that the Uzbek Chancellor welcomed the Ambassador after the presentation ceremony of his Credentials and congratulated him for his high and responsible appointment in Uzbekistan, wishing him success.

Cuban Ambassador presents Credentials in Uzbekistan

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Uzbekistan, Alfredo Fidel Nieves Portuondo, presented his Letters of Credentials to the Chancellor, Abdulaziz Kamilov, in an official ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this Central Asian nation.

In the solemn ceremony, both exchanged about the state of bilateral relations and expressed their desire to work to promote cooperation in sectors such as medicine, culture, sports and tourism.

On January 16, 2019, the United States State Department announced the decision to suspend for only 45 days the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, “to conduct a careful review… in light of the national interests of the United States and efforts to expedite a transition to democracy in Cuba and include factors such as the Cuban regime’s brutal oppression of human rights and fundamental freedoms and its indefensible support for increasingly authoritarian and corrupt regimes in Venezuela and Nicaragua.”
