Cuba and the United States advance in the bilateral cooperation against discharges of hydrocarbons and other harmful or potentially hazardous substances

Delegations from Cuba and the United States met to establish a Plan for Bilateral Coordination as part of the implementation of an Agreement signed by both countries in the field of cooperation on the preparedness and response to the pollution caused by discharges of hydrocarbons and other harmful or potentially  hazardous substances in the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida Straits. 

Cuba and the United States strengthen cooperation in the field of search and rescue

Authorities of the Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue System of the Republic of Cuba (SAR-Cuba) participated in the observance of a tabletop exercise on search and rescue in Key West, Florida, in response to an invitation extended by the U.S. Coast Guard Service. The initiative, which took place on March 6, 2018, falls within the context of the bilateral governmental cooperation after the signing of an Agreement on this field on January 18, 2017. 

Unilateral decision by the government of the United States is politically motivated 

Havana, March 5, 2018.- The decision by the United States Government, which unilaterally maintains the drawdown of its staff at the U.S. Embassy in Cuba indefinitely, is politically motivated and has no relation whatsoever with the safety and security of its officials in Havana, said the General Director for U.S. Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Carlos Fernández de Cossío in his statement to the press.

Cuba and the United States hold technical exchange on trafficking in persons and child sexual abuse

On February 14, 2018, a first technical exchange was held in Washington D.C. between authorities from Cuba and the United States charged with the prevention and combat against trafficking in persons and child sexual abuse. This exchange falls within the context of the law enforcement dialogue between both countries. 

During the meeting, both parties talked about the experiences gained in the prevention and combat against these crimes, the common challenges they face, and the actions of cooperation that need to be coordinated between the relevant authorities of both countries.

Delegations from Cuba and the United States hold exchange on trafficking in persons

On February 13, 2018, the Fifth Exchange on the Trafficking in Persons was held in Washington D.C. between multi-sectoral delegations from Cuba and the United States. Both parties gave updates on the advances made, experiences gained and the challenges they face in the prevention of and combat against the trafficking in persons and in their work to protect victims. 

Technical exchange held between Cuba’s Border Guard Troops and the U.S. Coast Guard Service

On January 22-23, 2018, the eighth technical exchange between representatives of Cuba’s Border Guard Troops and the U.S. Coast Guard Service was held in Florida, United States, with the objective of exchanging on ways to increase bilateral cooperation in the combat against irregular emigration and drug trafficking, and in search and rescue operations.

The meeting took place in an ambiance of respect and professionalism.

Triumph of the Cuban Revolution commemorated in the United States

Cubans, Americans and invitees from different nationalities met on January 18 at the Embassy of Cuba in the United States to commemorate the 59th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

In his remarks before the 150 invitees who attended the event, the Cuban Ambassador José Ramón Cabañas highlighted that the fundamental axis through ought all these years of Revolution has been the unity and resilience of the Cuban people, as he also thanked the support received from the international community and different sectors in the United States.

Cuban and US authorities hold Technical Exchange on Counter-Terrorism

On January 17, 2018, a technical meeting was held in Washington D.C. between the Cuban and US authorities responsible for preventing and fighting terrorism, aimed at advancing cooperation in this area.

This meeting falls within the context of law enforcement dialogue that both countries established in November 2015.

The Cuban delegation was composed of representatives of the ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, while the US delegation was composed of officials of the departments of Homeland Security, Justice and State.
