Acknowledgement of the contribution of Cuba to fight COVID-19 in Africa
Addis Ababa, 4 May, 2020. The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat participate in the online Summit of the Non Aligned Movement on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The African leader expressed appreciation to Cuba and China for their support to Africa to fight the disease by sending medical brigades and materials.
In recent weeks, Cuba sent to Angola, Togo, Cape Verde and South Africa medical brigades of the specialized contingent for emergencies "Henry Reeve", that joined the 30 brigades already working in Africa by the time of the outbrake.
TERRORIST ATTACK AGAINST THE CUBAN EMBASSY IN WASHINGTON
In the early hours of Thursday, 30April 2020, an unknown individual opened fire with an assault weapon against the building of the Embassy of Cuba in the United States. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba published a Note on the matter asking the US government to investigate the serious incident and to adopt appropriate steps to protect the premises of diplomatic missions accredited to that country.
CUBA AND AFRICA UNITED IN THE BATTLE AGAINST COVID-19
Cuba and Africa are united not only by history but in the fight against COVID-19. Cuba has deployed medical personnel in 31 countries of Africa including the medical brigades that existed before the pandemic and two new brigades of the international medical contingent for emergencies "Henry Reeve" to support the efforts in Angola and Togo.
Thousands of medical personnel graduated in Cuba are also participating alonside the Cubans because solidarity shall prevail in times of COVID-19 to overcome the disease.
