Cuba at the Decolonization Committee: We will not relent until colonial practices are banished from international relations

New York, 18 February 2022.- Ambassador Pedro L. Pedroso Cuesta, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, was elected today as Vice-chair of the Special Committee on Decolonization. At the installation ceremony, attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pedroso Cuesta expressed his gratitude for the confidence placed in Cuba, which he represents, and emphasized that the mandate given to the Committee is unaccomplished.

Increase in tourist arrivals to Cuba reported

he National Office of Statistics and Information of Cuba (ONEI) reported this saturday a significant increase in foreign visitors during January of this year, a figure that reached 134,661 travelers. He added that this represents a 375.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2021, which is equivalent to 98,819 more tourists. The authorities plan a recovery of this industry for this year, at a rate of just over two million tourists, since the country received an average of four million each year before the Covid-19 pandemic. The most outstanding issuing markets on that list are Russia, the Cuban Community abroad, Canada, Germany, Spain, the United States, France, Poland, Colombia and Italy, indicates the ONEI.

Consulate of Cuba in Finland informs its users that attention is resumed for all consular services

The Cuban Consulate in Finland is pleased to inform its users that the processing of all consular services is resumed: Attention will be kept at a distance in correspondence with the protection measures against Covid-19 of our Mission. Consular procedures must be requested by email to consulcuba@cuba.fi. Subsequently, the status of the service will be notified and an appointment will be adjusted if necessary.

Women at the center of transformation process in Cuba

Cuba on Tuesday is celebrating International Women's Day with progress in political, cultural, social and family rights, and also challenges that place them at the center of the transformation process in the island. The founding of the Federation of Cuban Women in 1960 enabled that women could participate in determining policies and implementing measures to eliminate prejudices and stereotypes that kept them in a subordinate position in society.

Last February 26, the Cuban Government issued a statement on the events that are taking place in Ukraine, in which it clearly expressed its position in favor of a solution that guarantees the security and sovereignty of all and addresses legitimate humanitarian concerns. Our position on this issue was also extensively addressed during the statement of the Cuban delegation on the occasion of the emergency special session of the UN General Assembly held this week.
