Cuba confirms commitment to cooperation with the Pacific

Pohnpei, 11 September 2016. – On the occasion of the Post Forum Dialogue at the 47th session of the Pacific Islands Forum, the Director General for Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, confirmed the commitment of his country with the region, highlighting the willingness to continue exploring new cooperation projects.

President of Ghana receives Cuban Ambassador

The Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Mr. Pedro Luis Gonzalez Despaigne was received by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama. The meeting took place at the Residence of the Ghanaian President.

Both sides made an assessment of the state of bilateral relations and the ongoing cooperation actions, both in the bilateral and multilateral order.

The result of the meeting shows the existence of strong ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

On December 17, 2014, within the process of reestablishment of relations between Cuba and the United States, President Barack Obama acknowledged the failure of the traditional U.S. policy towards Cuba and promised to undertake a debate in Congress in order to lift the Embargo. Following this new approach, the President announced several executive measures aimed at modifying the implementation of some of its aspects.

Cuba and countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean committed to boosting bilateral relations.

The Ambassador of Cuba in Dominica, Juan Carlos Frómeta held a working meeting with the Head of the Business Unit Competitive the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) based in the capital, Mr. Marlon Marie, as well as other officials of the organization.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palau expresses interest in promoting closer links with Cuba

Pohnpei, 8 of September of 2016. -In a meeting held in the framework of the 47th  Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), the Foreign Minister of Palau, Billy Kuartei, expressed Gerardo Peñalver Portal, Director-General for Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, the will of his Government in strengthening bilateral ties. During the exchange, the leader of the small Pacific nation thanked Cuban cooperation in the health sector, especially in medical training of Young Palauans in Cuban universities.
