Heads of State and Government and other representatives of the nations of our region,

On behalf of its people and government, Cuba appreciates and supports the convening of this special CELAC Summit, given the serious nature of the issue that brings us together.

Washington, April 16, 2024 - On April 16, 2024, representatives of Cuba and the United States held bilateral migration talks in Washington DC. 

Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío Domínguez headed the Cuban delegation and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the State Department's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Eric Jacobstein led the U.S. delegation.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the implementation of the bilateral Migration Agreements, whose texts set forth the mutual commitment to guarantee regular, safe and orderly migration.

Colombo, April 15, 2024., The Digital News Portal of Sri  Lanka,  Colombo Times published on its front page on April 15, the Declaration of the Cuban government in which it calls for peace in the Middle East which necessarily requires an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to put an end to the genocide being committed today against the Palestinian people

In the declaration, which this digital site publishes in its entirety, it is reiterated that Cuba will always be on the side of peace, justice and respect for International Law.

Cuba warns of the dangers posed by the impunity with which Israel, with the complicity and support of the United States government, has acted against countries in the Middle East. The illegal attack on the consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, in flagrant violation of international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention, has endangered international peace and security, leading to a possible regionalization of the conflict with unpredictable consequences for world peace.

Five years have passed since the kidnapping in Kenya, on April 12, 2019, of Doctors Assel Herrera Correa and Landy Rodríguez Hernández, Cuban physicians who were serving in that country as part of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement in which they were voluntarily participating.

Since the news of the vile and absurd kidnapping was known, the governments of Kenya, Somalia and Cuba have made countless and enormous efforts to achieve the rescue of our two doctors and their return to their homeland.
