Cuba and PAHO ratify their willingness to expand and strengthen cooperation

During the afternoon session this Wednesday of the 60th session of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Minister of Public Health of Cuba, Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, and the director of said regional organization, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa da Silva, signed the Cooperation Strategy for the period 2023-2027.

Said document, Portal Miranda said after concluding the official conversations with the Director of PAHO, “constitutes an extremely important tool to guide technical cooperation actions between both parties during the next five years.”

Given the attempt by the US delegation attending the 60th session of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), to minimize the impact of the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade that its Government imposes on our people, the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, demanded that nation stop “hiding from the world the serious damage that this policy causes to the Health sector in Cuba.”

Cuba disproves U.S. attempt to manipulate medical cooperation

Cuban Public Health Minister José Ángel Portal on Tuesday proved wrong the U.S. government's attempt to manipulate Cuba´s international medical cooperation.

Dr. Portal described as “regrettable” the speech given by the representative of the U.S. delegation on the second day of the 60th session of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

“The U.S. government harps on accusing Cuba of alleged human trafficking for exploitation purpose, which they associate with those who work in the Cuban health system,” the minister condemned.

Cuba reduces infant mortality rate to 4.3 in 2016

Cuba reduced its infant mortality rate to 4.3 per thousand live births in 2016, thus staying among the best countries in the world in this health indicator, according to Minister of Health Roberto Morales.

Minister Morales said Cuba closed the year with improvements in the main sanitary indicators and the child-mother program, while life expectancy continued to grow. He added that conditions were created to replicate these results in 2017.

 On the occasion of the change of the head of the Cuban medical Brigade in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Ambassador Vilma Reyes organized, at the headquarters of the diplomatic mission, a work lunch with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Environment of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the outgoing head of the Medical Brigade, BSC Dr. Clara Elsie González and the new head of the Medical Brigade, Dr. Hilda Ponce.
