Havana, January 9, 2018. In the morning of January 9, a hearing of the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations was held, which was organized by Marco Rubio, the Republican Senator for Florida and co-chaired by Robert Menendez, the Democrat Senator for New Jersey, who have a vast work history against the betterment of relations between Cuba and the United States and are promoters of all sort of legislative and political proposals that affect the interests of the Cuban and U.S.
Cuba Convokes to International Congress on Disasters
Havana, January 8, 2018. The National Civil Defense Staff called specialists in disaster risk management today to the 10th International Congress on the subject, which will be held here from July 2 to 6.
Under the slogan 'Understanding the Risk of Disaster and Join Efforts to Reduce it in the Interest of Sustainable Development,' the meeting will address issues such as the impact of climate change in these situations.
Cuba reaches lowest infant mortality rate in its history - four per 1,000 live births.
Havana, January 2, 2018. Maintaining infant mortality rate below five per 1,000 live for the 10th consecutive year is reason enough for Cuba to celebrate.
But even more extraordinary is that the country has achieved the lowest rate in its history in 2017, four per 1,000 live births
Preliminary data, made available to Granma by the Medical Records and Health Statistics Directorate, indicates that 114,980 births took place, 1,892 less than in 2016, and 465 babies under a year of age died, 32 less than in 2016, the lowest number on record.
