New York, 25 April 2017. Cuba participated today in the High Level Event of the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, as part of the 16th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

Cuba welcomes the 20th anniversary of the "Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction" (Convention on Chemical Weapons), whose full, effective and non-discriminatory application is strongly committed.
Cuba was one of the original signatories states of this instrument and ratified it on 29th April, 1997, the date of its entry into force.

As part of the 16th session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, expressed today that ten years after the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and despite the goals achieved, many indigenous communities around the world still face situations of violence, racism, marginalization, major economic and social disadvantages, extreme poverty and plunder of their lands.

Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations Organization attended the launching of the book “Cuba-US Relations: Normalization and its challenges”, at Columbia University. The book results from the joint work of the US academician Dr. Margaret Crahan, Director of the Cuba Program at the Institute for Latin American Studies of this higher-level study center and the Cuban researcher Soraya Castro, from the International Politics Study Center (CIPI), associated to the Higher Institute for International Relations.

New York, 21 April 2017. Cuba participated today in the United Nations General Assembly Interactive dialogue on Harmony with Nature, to commemorate the International Mother Earth Day.
At this forum, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo defined that consumer societies are mainly responsible for the atrocious destruction of the environment. She noted that harmony with nature and mankind´s wellbeing cannot be achieved, as long as the same capitalist consumption and production patterns are followed.
