As part of the event convened by the President of the General Assembly, “High-level SDG Financing Lab”, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, emphasized today that the fulfillment of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda will only be possible, with firm commitments and greater political will to mobilize additional, predictable and unconditioned resources so that developing countries may meet the new and ambitious development goals.

New York, 4 April 2017. On behalf of Cuba, Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario, participated yesterday in consultations on intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform. As regards sub-item related to the regional representation and size of an enlarged Council, he pointed out that the regional representation requires to be rebalanced, as it does not reflect geopolitical realities. “Undoubtedly, developing countries are under-represented in the Council”, he commented.

During the 50th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development, the Director of Population at Cuba’s National Statistics and Information Office (ONEI), Juan Carlos Alfonso Fraga, proved today that Cuba is a demographically developed country with indicators that stand for its very advanced demographic transition.
