Press Release: Cuba conveys message of appreciation following the adoption of draft resolution on the question of Puerto Rico.

New York, 19 June 2017. On behalf of the Cuban delegation and following the adoption of draft resolution on the question of Puerto Rico, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, thanked all members of the Special Committee on Decolonization and the other delegations that spoke on the issue, for the strong and valuable support to the adoption of the resolution, once again, by consensus.

Press Release: Cuba participates in debate devoted to UNICEF Strategic Plan (2018-2021).

New York, 14 June 2017. In the annual session of UNICEF Executive Board, the delegate of Cuba Biana Leyva considered the Fund’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021 shall articulate with QCPR mandates; meet countries’ priorities and national capacities; and not be constituted in the establishment of rigid demarcations, pre-established formulas or universal approaches applicable to all programs.

Declaration of ACNU on the occasion of the second session of the United Nations Conference to negotiate a legally binding instrument prohibiting nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination.

The United Nations Cuban Association (ACNU) and its 105 associated civil society organizations support the negotiations within the framework of the United Nations Organization (UNO) of a legally binding international instrument prohibiting nuclear weapons leading towards their total elimination.

Reaching a binding agreement on this matter would demonstrate the political will of States in building a world of peace, consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

At UNDP Annual Rule of Law Meeting: Strengthening the Rule of Law for Sustaining Peace and Fostering Development, Cuba pointed out that peace is much more than the absence of war, and called to solve the complex obstacles in terms of social and economic development affecting our nations, particularly those in the South.
