Press Release: The United Nations General Assembly observes a minute of silence to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution

New York, 29 November 2016.- The United Nations General Assembly started off its session today observing a minute of silence to pay homage to the recently deceased leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The President of this Organ, Ambassador Peter Thomson from Fiji, conveyed condolences to the Cuban people and Government and requested that the formal session corresponding to Agenda item 35 “Question of Palestine”, would start with the tribute to Commander Fidel.

Press Release: United Nations officials sign condolence book

New York, 29 November 2016.- On Tuesday, several United Nations officials, among them Mrs. Jessica Faieta, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Director for Latin America and the Caribbean and Mrs. Susan McDade, Deputy Assistant Administrator and UNDP Deputy Director for Latin America and the Caribbean visited the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations to sign the condolence book and convey to Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, Charge D’Affaires a.i., their messages of condolences for the Cuban people and Government.

Thanks to all the friends of Cuba and of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, for every message and expression of friendship and solidarity. Fidel´s traces in this city will linger on and he will live in each one of us, in Cuba, in his friends and in these headquarters.

Press release from the Organizing Commission for the funeral rites of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

CUBA, 26 November 2016 .- The Organizing Commission of the Central Committee of the Party, State and Government for the funeral rites of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, informs the populace that as of 29 November, from 09:00 until 22:00, at the José Marti Memorial, the population of the capital may present themselves to pay their respects in tribute to their leader.  The hours will be extended until 29 November from 9:00 to 12:00.
