From Saint Kitts and Nevis, tribute is paid to José Martí and U.S. aggressions against Cuba are rejected

Basseterre, January 30, 2026 — This Friday, the Embassy of Cuba in Saint Kitts and Nevis hosted a tribute marking the 173rd anniversary of the birth of José Martí, National Hero of Cuba.

Representatives of the Cuban state mission, Cuban residents, the Cuba Solidarity Association, and Cuba Alumni Association also exchanged views on the legacy of Fidel Castro, the continuer of Martí’s ideas, within the framework of activities being carried out throughout the year to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the current revolutionary process.

The occasion was also the opportunity to denounce the recent maneuver by the U.S. government to suffocate the Cuban people through the extreme tightening of the blockade against the Caribbean island.

“We need to increase denunciations of this new crime being committed against the brotherly Cuban people. Caribbean nations must stand united and prevent this injustice from continuing,” said one of the solidarity members present at the event.

The Cuban ambassador, Giuvel Orozco, described the measure as a direct and extreme aggression against all the inhabitants of the Greater Antilles, aimed at depriving them of the right to life, freedom, development, and peace, and as an additional effort to further depress the living conditions of the Cuban people. The dignity and resilience of Cubans have been tested on numerous occasions and are difficult for the promoters of hatred and war to understand.

He further argued that the United States is once again relying on unfounded and manipulated arguments to coerce other sovereign states that attempt to legitimately trade fuel with Cuba.

The U.S. government is the only threat to international peace and security, violating International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The U.S. blockade against Cuba is a policy that has been maintained for more than six decades, aimed at severely depressing the living conditions and development of the Cuban people.
