Cuba and South Africa commemorate 27 years of fruitful diplomatic relationships

Pretoria, May 11, 2021.- Cuba and South Africa celebrate today the 27th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, in a context of strong and special ties of friendship, cooperation and solidarity.

On May 11, 1994, in one of the first foreign policy actions of the new government in a recently liberated South Africa, Presidents Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro formalized diplomatic relations between our two nations.

Pretoria, May 4, 2021.- In an emotional virtual event held within the framework of Freedom Day in South Africa, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) awarded the Friends of Cuba Society in South Africa (FOCUS) the seal "60th anniversary of ICAP", for the outstanding and uninterrupted work of support and solidarity with the Cuban people and their Revolution.

Cuba congratulates sister South Africa on Freedom Day

Pretoria, April 27, 2021.- Today South Africa commemorates the 27th anniversary of the first non-racial elections in the country and with it, the consolidation of the end of Apartheid.

Following the April 27, 1994 elections, Nelson Mandela, an iconic anti-Apartheid fighter who had spent 27 years in prison for fighting the shameful regime, became the country's first black president, with overwhelming support from the South African people.
