Embassy of Cuba supports book by Latin American women in New Zealand

Auckland, November 15th, 2018. A bilingual selection of writings from 18 Spanish-speaking women living in New Zealand was officially launched in Auckland. "Viva la Vida" is a compilation of poetry and stories of the author´s experiences “down under”. The launch took place at Studio One Toi Tū, as part of the program Miradas de la Diversidad (Glances of Diversity 2018) organized by the Aotearoa Latin American Community Incorporated (ALACINC).

Oamaru Mail - Cuban ambassador opens exhibition

It was a memorable day for staff and pupils at St Kevin’s College last Wednesday when Cuban ambassador Mario Alzugaray Rodriguez visited the school.

Accompanied by his wife Elizabeth and their son Mauricio, Mr Alzugaray Rodriguez officially opened a photography exhibition at the school.

Otago Daily Times - Optimism over Cuba relations

Despite vast differences there is much Cuba and New Zealand can learn from each other, the island nation's ambassador says.

Mario Alzugaray is on a four-day tour of Dunedin, which includes attending the Labour Party conference and speaking with deputy mayor Chris Staynes.

While both countries were considerably different geographically and socially, the two island natios could learn from each other, Mr Alzugaray said.

Visit to the Museum of Working Class History in Blackball

Blackball, October 22, 2018. Third Secretary Saimin Fis Abad paid a visit to the city of Blackball, birthplace of the Labor Party in New Zealand.

The diplomat was received by known filmmaker and activist, Paul Maunder, director of the Museum of the Working Class, who explained not only the history of this mining city, located in the West Coast Region, but also, the details of the activities for the First of May and the seminar on the perspectives of development in the mining area of the region, which is held every year.

Cuban Culture Day celebration in Wellington

Wellington, October 20, 2018.- Coordinated by the Latin Club and the Embassy of Cuba in New Zealand, the "Cuban Night" took place in Wellington, to celebrate the Cuban Culture Day and as part of the activities carried out in the city for the Spanish Language and Culture Week.

Main attraction was a presentation by the Cuban Ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, who exchange with participants on the Cuban culture, traditions and history, with special emphasis on the Cuban Rum history, one of the essential elements that are part of the Cuban nationality.
