Geneva, April 5, 2024. At the 55th regular session of the Human Rights Council, Cuba proposed resolutions on "The right to food", "The renewal of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on cultural rights" and "The effects of foreign debt and other related international financial obligations of States on the full enjoyment of all human rights, particularly economic, social and cultural rights".

Statement by Juan Antonio Quintanilla Román, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Cuba, during the interactive dialogue on the report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Belarus.

Mr. President, Madam Deputy High Commissioner,
Cuba opposed the resolution that created this mandate. Our position of principle against mechanisms that do not have the support of the country concerned is clear and invariable.
We reaffirm our support for the people and government of Belarus and its constitutionally elected president, Alexander Lukashenko. We reject externally-funded destabilization maneuvers and interference in this country's internal affairs.
