Second Secretary Greisy Cordero, speaks in explanation of vote on amendment L.36 rev.1 on the Code of Conduct for Special Procedures, tabled to draft resolution L.27 rev.1 on Human Rights Defenders.

The Code of Conduct establishes fundamental principles and values that we, as members of this Council, defend, including professionalism, impartiality, transparency, independence, equanimity, integrity, honesty, and constructive, balanced, and good-faith engagement. We all agree that these are the minimum standards of judgement and decency.

Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez, speaks on draft resolution L.30 rev.1 "Human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, and the obligation to ensure accountability and justice".

Israel threatens to exterminate the Palestinian people, who face an existential threat.  The genocide being committed is a continuation of more than seven decades of illegal occupation, abuse and exclusion.

Cuba’s vote will be a vote for life, peace, and justice. We will support this resolution because it is urgent to act to halt the spiral of violence, save human lives, and put an end to impunity.

Cuba and the International Organization for Migration Strengthen Relations

Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson met with Ms. Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Both parties discussed work priorities for 2025, current migration trends, and bilateral cooperation programs. They agreed to continue strengthening the cooperative relations between Cuba and the IOM, which have proven to be mutually beneficial.
