A just and lasting peace in the Middle East is an urgent need

Declaration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba reiterates its deep concern about the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestine, which is a consequence of decades of Israeli illegal occupation and colonization practices, in flagrant violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in its own territory, as well as the long-lasting disregard of the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations Charter and International Law, including numerous relevant UN resolutions.

The Human Rights Council, during its 54th regular session, adopted resolutions sponsored by Cuba.

Geneva, October 11, 2023. The resolutions promoted by Cuba on "The use of mercenaries as a means of violating human rights and impeding the exercise of the right of peoples to self-determination" and "Renewal of the mandate of the Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order" were adopted with the support of the overwhelming majority of the members of the Human Rights Council.

Cuba elected to the UN Human Rights Council

Cuba was elected, for the sixth time, to the Human Rights Council, in recognition of the prestige achieved by the country in the work of the Council.

With the secret, direct and individual vote of 146 Member States of the United Nations General Assembly, Cuba was the country scoring the highest number of votes in the region.
