Cuba reaffirms its concern over the impact of armed conflict on children. The outlook is not positive.

While exorbitant resources are being squandered on weapons and conflicts continue to escalate, the world has stepped back three decades in the fight against extreme poverty. Child hunger has reached levels unseen since 2005. Over 450 million children worldwide live in or have fled conflict zones.

Cuba reiterates its concern over the violations of human rights and State sovereignty committed by certain governments, large companies, and technological clusters through increasing large-scale surveillance and interception of communications, and data collection and mining -the so-called Big Data- as well as the extraterritorial nature of these actions.

While the international resources available to achieve these goals have been wholly insufficient, military spending has been increasing for nine consecutive years. All indications suggest that in the coming years, this expenditure will grow even more rapidly, to the detriment of peace and sustainable development.

A world order where over 400 million people remain unemployed and the number of young people who neither work nor study has raised to 260 million cannot be sustainable. Without progress towards full employment and decent work for all, poverty cannot be eradicated.

Among the measures to reinforce the blockade applied against our country, the inclusion of Cuba on the unilateral and illegal list of alleged sponsors of terrorism stands out for its slanderous nature and the enormous economic and humanitarian damage it causes.

The US government knows very well that Cuba does not sponsor terrorism. It lies because it lacks political or ethical arguments to justify the economic war it imposes on us.
