The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) demonstrates that no nation is free from challenges, nor can it claim to be a paradigm. No one has the authority to use human rights as a pretext to stigmatise other states. The UPR also shows that there can be no one-size-fits-all models. It provides a necessary space for states to dialogue, share experiences and learn from each other.

We welcome the delegation of Brunei Darussalam. We acknowledge the political will of that nation to continue advancing in the promotion and protection of the human rights of its population, as well as its commendable efforts in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

We are pleased that the country has accepted the three recommendations made by Cuba in a spirit of cooperation and respect.

We welcome the fact that the sister nation of Dominica has accepted Cuba's three recommendations, aimed at making further progress in social protection, the promotion of equity and the reduction of poverty. 

We recognise their efforts by passing new laws on family law, care for persons with disabilities, access to a quality health system and the empowerment of women.
