Active participation from Liberia in Virtual Event "Solidarity Vs Blockade".

Monrovia, September 17, 2020 - Young Liberians united with the collective of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia participated in the virtual event "Solidarity vs. Blockade", where they denounced the genocidal sanctions imposed on Cuba by the government of the United States.

Organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the event included excellent interventions by friends from Ghana, Iran, Australia, El Salvador, and Timorese students, among others.

Foreign Minister Asistant for American Affairs reiterates Liberia's support for Cuba's fight against the blockade.

Monrovia, September 16, 2020 - The Foreign Minister's Advisor for American Affairs at the Liberian Foreign Ministry, the Honorable Maxwell P. Vah, received in his office the Cuban Chief of Mission in Liberia, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera.

Among the various topics discussed, a vital issue was the tightening of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuba's Head of Mission in Liberia was received at the Foreign Ministry by the Honorable Maxwell P. Vah, Assistant Minister for American Affairs.

Monrovia, September 16, 2020 - The Cuban Head of Mission in Liberia, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera, was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Honorable Maxwell P. Vah, Assistant Minister for the Americas.

In the meeting that took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, topics of interest for both countries were discussed.

Among the issues discussed was the situation of Cuba in front of COVID-19, and challenges imposed by the current pandemic.

Cuban Embassy in Liberia pays tribute to Foreign Service Martyrs' Day.

On September 11, 1983, Cuban diplomat Felix Garcia, an official of the Cuban mission to the UN, was assassinated. Four pistol shots took his life when he stopped in front of a red light. He had come from commemorating, together with Chilean comrades, the resistance of President Salvador Allende to the coup d'état perpetrated 7 years before. Felix was a victim of the counter-revolutionary action of the terrorist group Omega 7, based in Florida.

Cuba joins UNESCO in celebrating International Literacy Day

On September 8, International Literacy Day is celebrated worldwide. This date has been gaining importance since the UN approved its commemoration in 1965. The objective of this day is to evaluate how the literacy rate has improved in the member countries, in pursuit of the achievement of Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals.
