Press Release: Cuba participates in debate devoted to UNICEF Strategic Plan (2018-2021).

New York, 14 June 2017. In the annual session of UNICEF Executive Board, the delegate of Cuba Biana Leyva considered the Fund’s Strategic Plan 2018-2021 shall articulate with QCPR mandates; meet countries’ priorities and national capacities; and not be constituted in the establishment of rigid demarcations, pre-established formulas or universal approaches applicable to all programs.

Declaration of ACNU on the occasion of the second session of the United Nations Conference to negotiate a legally binding instrument prohibiting nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination.

The United Nations Cuban Association (ACNU) and its 105 associated civil society organizations support the negotiations within the framework of the United Nations Organization (UNO) of a legally binding international instrument prohibiting nuclear weapons leading towards their total elimination.

Reaching a binding agreement on this matter would demonstrate the political will of States in building a world of peace, consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

At UNDP Annual Rule of Law Meeting: Strengthening the Rule of Law for Sustaining Peace and Fostering Development, Cuba pointed out that peace is much more than the absence of war, and called to solve the complex obstacles in terms of social and economic development affecting our nations, particularly those in the South.

Fraternal meeting of the Vietnamese President with the leader of the National Assembly of Cuba

President Trần Đại Quang urged the Vietnamese and Cuban Parties and States to continuously direct ministries and relevant departments to step up the existing bilateral co-operation mechanisms and refine a legal framework for stable and long-term collaboration while meeting with the Cuban NA Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernández.

Quang hailed the outcomes of the talks between the top Cuban legislator and Vietnamese NA Chairwoman Ngân, and hoped the two parliaments will consolidate ties in both bilateral and multilateral aspects.

Prime Minister of Vietnam meet with the Cuban President of the National Assembly

Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc received Cuban President of the National Assembly, Esteban Lazo Hernández, stressing that Vietnam is encouraging the creation of favorable conditions to further the development of bilateral relations. Vietnam continues to pursue the stance of supporting the complete removal of embargoes against Cuba, he said.

Noting that two-way trade turnover between the two countries last year remained low, reaching US$216 million, the PM proposed measures to boost trade relations between the two nations.
