Cuban Ambassador to Egypt denounces effects of US blockade

Cairo, October 22, 2025. The financial, economic, and commercial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years is the main obstacle to Cuba's development, denounced Alexander Pellicer Moraga, the island's ambassador to Egypt, today.

This punitive measure is the basis of the policy of maximum pressure adopted by Washington against the Caribbean country to affect its economy and generate internal discontent, Pellicer said during a press conference in this capital attended by more than a dozen representatives of the Egyptian media.

Déborah Rivas Saavedra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of the Republic of Cuba, speaks at the general debate of the 16th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Mr. President,

Madam Secretary-General,

Ministers, delegates, and guests,

The current system of international relations suffers from the imbalances of an unjust, unequal, and exclusionary order—one that is unsustainable for the planet and incompatible with the well-being of all, as it marginalizes the peoples of the South from global progress.
