40th Southern Cross Brigade begins activities in Cuba

Canberra, 6 January 2025. The 40th Southern Cross Brigade began its activities in Cuba.

The Brigade, integrated by friends of solidarity from Australia and New Zealand, traveled, as every year, to bring their solidarity and support to the largest of the Antilles.

The program on the island, which will last until January 23, includes various activities, including exchanges with communities and socio-cultural projects in Pinar del Rio, Havana and Matanzas.

The “traditional knowledge and practices for the elaboration and consumption of cassava” are officially declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

On December 4, 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially declared the “traditional knowledge and practices for the preparation and consumption of cassava” as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The decision was the result of a joint effort between Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Honduras and Venezuela, who presented a multinational dossier to recognize this traditional food of the region. 

Ambassador of Cuba meets with Ambassador of Australia to Cuba Rachel Moseley

Canberra, December 3, 2024. The Cuban Ambassador to Australia received Ambassador Rachel Moseley, Ambassador of Australia to Cuba, at the Cuban Embassy in Canberra. 

During the friendly meeting, they discussed matters of mutual interest for the development of bilateral relations. 

The Cuban diplomat thanked Ambassador Moseley for Australia's position against the blockade of Cuba and expressed her willingness to continue expanding and developing relations between the two peoples and governments. 

Meeting between Cuban Ambassador to Australia and ABL executives

Canberra, December 1, 2024. The Cuban Ambassador to Australia met this afternoon with executives of the Australian Bassebol League (ABL).

The meeting was attended by Glen Wiliam, Executive Director of the ABL, and issues of interest to both countries were discussed. 

The diplomat expressed Cuba's willingness to cooperate in sports with Australia, particularly in baseball, which is the national sport in Cuba and in which the Antillean nation can show a very broad, rich and recognized trajectory.

Cuban Ambassador receives Ambassador-designate of Colombia to Australia

 

Canberra, November 29, 2024, The Cuban Ambassador to Australia received the Ambassador-designate of Colombia to Australia Diego Felipe CADENA MONTENEGRO on a courtesy visit at the Cuban Embassy. 

Both diplomats highlighted the historic ties that unite both countries, as well as discussed matters of mutual interest. 

The Cuban diplomat thanked her Colombian counterpart for Colombia's firm position against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
