Led by Deputy Thomas Pringle and with the presence of several of its members, the Irish Parliamentary Committee of Friendship with Cuba welcomed the Deputy to the National Assembly of Popular Power, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, who is currently visiting Ireland for work.

Dublin, June 21, 2018. The Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, was invited to a hearing of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Trade and Defense of the Irish parliament.

The University of Cork was the venue of the national commemoration that remembers the victims of the great famine, which hit Ireland in the middle of the 19th century and that caused more than one million victims and forced the largest emigration of Ireland. Its population was reduced by more than two and a half million people and even today Ireland has less population than in 1850.

The Cuban ambassador to Ireland, Hugo René Ramos Milanés held a working meeting with Mary Lou McDonald, president of the Sinn Féin party, in which he delivered a letter sent by comrade José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba, in charge of international relations. The letter conveys a cordial congratulation to McDonald for her election to the high party position and renews the willingness of the PCC to strengthen the bonds of friendship and collaboration between both political organizations.
