Cuba in Guyana

Over 1,500 surgeries conducted at National Ophthalmology Hospital in 2022 under Guyana-Cuba collaboration programme.

The National Ophthalmology Hospital located in Port Mourant, Region Six continues to have a tremendous impact in providing eyecare, with over 1,500 surgeries conducted in 2022.

Director General at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo made the disclosure on the sideline of a site visit to Kato, Region Eight.

 “This year, we are looking to pass 2,500 because people need help and we have to get it done. What cannot be done here, we will facilitate it on the coast,” he related.

Georgetown, Guyana. February 16, 2023. The Ambassador of Cuba to Guyana paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Hon. Mrs. Oneidge Walrond, which took place in a fraternal atmosphere, and they exchanged different topics of mutual interest and thus giving continuity to matters related to this Ministry.

President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali meets the newly appointed Ambassador of Cuba, Jorge Francisco Soberón Luis

Georgetown. Guyana. February 7th, 2023. President Dr. Irfaan Ali met today with the Cuban ambassador to Guyana, Jorge Francisco Soberón Luis in the President's Office.
The President and the Ambassador, who was accredited last week, held discussions on various areas of mutual interest.
The Project Director of the Office of the President, Ms. Marcia Nadir-Sharma was also present at the meeting.
Guyana and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 8, 1972.
