Supports Cuban Ambassador at the Presentation of the “POGO 2026 Women’s Contribution Award,” in Honor of Skevi Koukouma
Nicosia, Cyprus, September 25, 2026. The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended on Thursday the presentation of the “Women’s Contribution Award 'Kleio Christodoulidou and Katina Nicolaou,'” given by the Panchyprian Women’s Movement (POGO), whose tenth edition honours the outstanding Cypriot female activist and leader Skevi Koukouma.
The award ceremony, established by POGO in 2017, marks a special milestone for this Women’s Contribution Award, aiming to highlight the struggles, achievements, and contributions of women in all areas of life; promote female role models; preserve memory; and help challenge the stereotypes that limit women’s choices, status, and participation in our societies.
When honouring her, the Secretary General of the AKEL Party, Stefanos Stefanou, proudly shared that this award is given to Skevi Koukouma for being “a comrade and activist whose work has closely linked her name with the modern woman, with the active fight for women's rights, and with tireless dedication to the women's movement and beyond” (…) “She is,” he said, “a comrade who consciously chose to be on the front line, acting alongside the people, alongside workers, alongside women, alongside every person who fights and struggles for rights, a better life, and dignity. Skevi's path is inseparably tied to POGO and AKEL.”
President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Cypriot Parliament Receives Cuban Ambassador
Nicosia, Cyprus, September 25, 2026. - The chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Mr. George Karoullas, received this Thursday at the Cypriot Parliament the Honorable Mr. Rubén Pino Martínez, ambassador of the Republic of Cuba accredited to this capital.
During his courtesy visit, Pino Martínez took the opportunity to personally congratulate him on his appointment as head of the aforementioned House of Representatives committee of Cyprus, while also emphasizing his availability and commitment to advancing the strengthening of inter-parliamentary and bilateral relations between both countries, stressing a closer interinstitutional approach adjusted to the new circumstances facing the Caribbean island.
By the way, the diplomat gave him a thorough update on the difficult economic situation Cuba is going through as a result of the blockade policy imposed by the U.S. for nearly seventy years and its current energy squeeze, which worsens the most basic living conditions of the Cuban people from the end of last January up to now.

The United Nations has witnessed the shamelessness and brazenness with which the world's largest military and economic power tries to give lessons on freedom and human rights to the world; but, once again, with hypocrisy and cynicism, it lies.
For that freedom that Cuba has treasured for decades and defends out of conviction, Cubans will have to give everything. Our voices cannot be complicit in the silence and infamy that the deceitful and offensive speech against our homeland by U.S. President Donald Trump intends to establish from the United Nations. Once again, without scruples and with total cynicism, he tries to impose labels and names against our country for no other reason than to tarnish, frustrate, ruin, and reduce to ashes the human and precious work dreamed of by our José Martí and consolidated by Fidel.
In the year of the centenary of his birth, let us turn to his legacy to condemn, as never before, so much barbarity, blackmail, and threats coming from the U.S. government, in its already practiced and recurring foreign policy concerning Cuba.
From the most remote corners of this planet, tarnished these days, from the UN headquarters, let us condemn the overbearing and hostile attitude of that threatening government, which tries to set itself up as the owner and ruler of the world's destinies and to attack sovereign states without scruples, particularly Cuba.
Cuban ambassador holds fruitful meeting with President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Nicosia, September 22, 2026. The President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Mr. Stravros Stavrou, welcomed on Monday the 21st at his headquarters on Griva Digeni, in this capital, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Rubén Pino Martínez, on a courtesy visit.
During the meeting, the CCCI president, Mr. Stavrou, thanked the Cuban diplomat for his visit and expressed his interest in continuing to take concrete steps toward strengthening bilateral economic and trade relations, identifying secure projects and specific goals that contribute to the solid and sustainable development of their relationship.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador thanked them for their warm welcome while updating them on the current situation facing the island, worsened by the prolonged and genocidal blockade and the energy siege imposed by the U.S. government, in addition to its recent executive orders of January 29 and May 1 of this year, which have caused significant damage affecting the everyday life of the Cuban population.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, on Tuesday expressed gratitude for sincere displays of solidarity and commitment to Cuba and its Revolution during a meeting held at his training center with part of the Omonia 29M sports team in the capital.
With this meeting, the Cuban ambassador continues the various exchanges held with different Cypriot teams that today represent the sports movement on the island, including those from the 2026 Cyprus Special Olympics, as a clear and explicit demonstration of the excellent relations of friendship and solidarity that now exist between the peoples of Cyprus and Cuba.
During the exchange with part of the management team and a group of the most outstanding players of Omonia29M, the Cuban diplomat had the opportunity to personally thank them for their arguments and demonstrations of solidarity with his nation, in light of the current and difficult economic situation that the Caribbean island is experiencing, a victim of the longest and most unjust blockade and energy siege ever imposed on any nation by the United States of America.
