Nicosia, Cyprus, February 19, 2026. The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, paid a courtesy visit on Thursday, February 19, to his counterpart, His Excellency Dr. Murat Ziazikov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to this capital.
The meeting took place at the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Nicosia, just a few hours after an intense day of work in Moscow by the minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who is there as special envoy of the Cuban Party and Government, and where he was received by the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin; the vice president of the Security Council and president of the United Russia Party, Dmitry Medvedev; and held talks with his counterpart, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The two diplomats exchanged views in a warm and friendly atmosphere on the shared vision of Russia and Cuba in the defense of international law, multilateralism, and international peace and security, and together they commented on the recent statements of mutual respect and affection ratified by the authorities of both nations during the last two days of intense work in Moscow.
In this regard, Pino Martínez echoed the words of gratitude shared by Cuban Foreign Minister Rodríguez Parrilla for Russia's “traditional and historic solidarity and support for Cuba, particularly in the face of the blockade and energy embargo,” while reiterating the willingness to continue working closely together, in line with the significant importance that the Cuban Party and Government attach to the comprehensive, sustainable, and strategic development of bilateral relations.
Cuban ambassador in Cyprus promotes meeting with Pluton Travel & Tours to boost tourism to the Caribbean island.
Nicosia, Cyprus, February 18, 2026. The Cuban ambassador in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, made a visit this Tuesday, February 17, to the agency "Pluton Travel & Tours" in Nicosia, where he was welcomed by its General Director, Mr. Antonis Antoniou, and his commercial team in the capital.
Pino Martínez promoted this courtesy visit and exchanged views with the full team of the agency, mainly with its CEO and founder Antonis Antoniou, to assess the performance of visa procedures granted from this “window of Cypriot tourism to Cuba” through the digital eVisa-Cuba platform, and to encourage a possible visit by him to the island during the 44th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2026), when the event takes place.
Executive Antoniou appreciated that this could be a quick and timely way to establish new avenues of collaboration between Pluton Travel & Tours and Cuban tour operators. He confirmed that it would be very beneficial because “I feel a deep affection for Cuba, a country I carry in my heart,” and he considers himself an “eternal admirer of the largest of the Antilles.”

The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, received on the morning of this Tuesday Her Excellency Mrs. Mercedes Alonso Frauyle, ambassador of Spain on the Eastern Mediterranean island, who paid a courtesy visit to the Cuban diplomatic mission following her recent arrival.
Both diplomats reviewed issues concerning the regional geopolitical situation and agreed on the importance of the meeting held this Monday between the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, during Rodríguez Parrilla's visit to the Spanish capital.
The Cuban ambassador shared with his Spanish counterpart detailed information on the damage the island is currently suffering as a result of more than sixty years of economic, financial, and commercial blockade against his nation, worsened by recent pressures and the specific blockade of fuel supplies to the island, following the executive order of January 29 imposed by the United States Government, in blatant violation of international law and in complete disregard of the United Nations Charter.
Cyprus Peace Council condemns the ongoing blockade and threats against Cuba during the 2025 Peace Prize award ceremony
Nicosia, Cyprus, February 16, 2026. — The President of the Cyprus Peace Council, Mr. Tasos Costeas, reaffirmed “a strong condemnation of the genocide that still persists against the Palestinian people in Gaza and against the ongoing blockade and threats against Cuba" during the 2025 Peace Prize award ceremony in this capital.
The statement was made this Monday at the fourth consecutive edition of the 2025 Peace Prize, awarded by the eponymous Council of Cyprus to recognize individuals and organized groups whose actions have contributed to the preservation of peace on the Eastern Mediterranean island.
Cuba was represented by its ambassador in Nicosia, Rubén Pino Martínez, who witnessed the distinction awarded to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) and the Bicommunal Choir for Peace “Lena Melanidau” as examples of humanitarian actions and bicommunal cooperation in the joint effort to preserve peaceful coexistence on the island.
