The President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Receives the Cuban Ambassador in Nicosia
Nicosia, Cyprus, March 11, 2026. The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cyprus, Her Excellency Mrs. Annita Demetriou, received in a courtesy visit and as his first official meeting, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, after he presented his credentials to the local government on February 20.
The also President of the DISY Party offered a warm and fraternal welcome to the Cuban diplomat at the usual headquarters of the House of Representatives in Nicosia, a meeting in which both parties reiterated their mutual gratitude for attending this scheduled meeting, which aims to deepen and diversify relations between the respective Parliaments and the legislative authorities of both nations.
During the day, a cordial and respectful exchange was promoted, where the Cuban diplomat updated the highest representative of the Cypriot parliament on the situation that Cuba is currently experiencing as a consequence of the sixty-year-old U.S. blockade policy and the executive order issued last January 29 by President Trump to prevent the access of oil to the island, and its terrible consequences for Cuba.
Cuban Ambassador Participates in the Commemoration of Ireland's National Day in Cyprus.
Nicosia, Cyprus, March 10, 2026.- On the occasion of the visit to this capital by the Irish Minister of Justice, Home Affairs and Immigration, Mr. Jim O'Collaghan, and invited by his Irish counterpart, Her Excellency Ms. Sarah Hamilton, the Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended the Reception for the National Day of the Republic of Ireland, held at the Pavilion Hall in Nicosia.
The Cuban diplomat greeted the host ambassador, whom he congratulated on the occasion of the upcoming March 17 celebration of this holiday of Catholic origin in honor of Saint Patrick (patron of Ireland), while also celebrating their national day commemorating the founding of that Republic. In this context, Pino Martínez wished her success in her performance before the Irish diplomatic mission in Cyprus.
The celebration on this day of “St. Patrick's Day” welcomed a large representation of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, as well as multiple government authorities and local institutions who attended in recognition of the traditional national date of the so-called «land of Éire».
Cuban ambassador signs condolence book opened at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Cyprus for the assassination of the Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei
Nicosia, Cyprus, March 5, 2026. — The Cuban ambassador to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, signed on the morning of Thursday, March 5, the condolence book opened at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this capital after the Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, was assassinated, in clear violation of the norms of international law and respect for human dignity.
In his message, the Cuban diplomat conveyed to the Iranian authorities and the family members of the distinguished statesman the heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Cuban people and government, highlighting his legacy as a leader of his people as well as his contribution to strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Iran, based on mutual respect.
Promotes Haragvi's newspaper campaign of solidarity and humanitarian aid to Cuba to counteract the effects of the blockade on the island.

The newspaper of the Progressive Party of the Working People (AKEL) published in its pages the campaign “By the Side of the Cuban People," shared by the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association and Almyra Publishing, to provide aid to the island and counteract the economic, financial, and commercial blockade policy for more than sixty years.
“In a period in which the Cuban people continue to suffer the consequences of the prolonged economic blockade, Almyra Editions joins forces with the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association to support the sending of humanitarian aid to Cuba,” the note specifies.
In the context of this initiative, part of the income generated from the sale of two widely known editions will be allocated to finance the purchase of necessary supplies for their shipment to the largest of the Antilles.
Cuban ambassador participates in a ceremony for Japan's National Day in Cyprus.
Nicosia, Cyprus, February 26, 2026.—Invited by His Excellency, the Ambassador of Japan to Cyprus, Mr. Satoshi Iwasaki, his Cuban counterpart, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended on Thursday the reception for Japan's National Day, a ceremony held to mark the birthday of H.M., the Emperor of the Asian nation.
During the commemoration, the two diplomats had a brief and cordial exchange regarding the new anniversary and the national holiday, during which Pino Martínez congratulated his counterpart and wished success, health, and well-being to his diplomatic representatives, to H.M., and to his entire nation.
This evening, celebrating Japan's National Day in Cyprus brought together in Nicosia a large representation of diplomatic missions accredited across the Eastern Mediterranean island, Japanese entities and commercial firms with a strong presence in various sectors of the island territory, and numerous Cypriot government officials, this time officially represented by their minister of transport, communications, and labor, Mr. Alexis Vafeades.
