Distinguished co-facilitators: 

We would like to express our appreciation for the work you have done in preparing the first draft of the outcome document of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD). As we have previously emphasized, this process is of utmost importance for our delegation.

We align with the statement delivered by Iraq on behalf of G77 and China and Palau on behalf of AOSIS.

Mr. President,

The alarming manifestations of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance that we are witnessing today, particularly in some of the most developed societies, underscore the relevance of commemorating the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Mr. President,

In Cuba, policies and programs for conservation, protection and climate resilience have an integrated vision that defines the dimensions of a project of social justice and equity.

Article 75 of the Constitution of the Republic affirms the right of all citizens to enjoy a healthy and balanced environment and, at the same time, its relationship with the sustainable economic and social development of the country.

Mr. President,

In Cuba, the promotion of peace, inclusion and social justice is an integral part of the State's policies and actions as a condition for achieving sustainable development. In line with the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, it contributes to the maintenance of international and regional peace, security and stability, as well as to the application of international law.

Mr. President,

The Cuban Constitution recognizes the right to a life free of violence. It affirms the importance of prevention and strengthens the responsibility of the State in implementing legal standards, public policies and improving mechanisms for the protection of victims.

Mr. President,

Presidential Decree 198, National Program for the Advancement of Women, summarizes the feelings and political will of the State and gives continuity to the advancement and progress of gender equality in the country.

Its coordination, at the highest level, evaluates the progress in gender issues and the compliance of agencies, institutions and organizations, which is one of the main tools for guaranteeing human rights and the progress of women.

Mr. President,

In my country, social policy is closely linked to inclusion and social protection. From a rights-based approach and a comprehensive vision, it includes the guarantee of basic welfare, attention to social risks, as well as poverty and inequality. It includes programs in various sectors such as health, education, housing, employment, security and social assistance.

Mr. President:

In several of its articles, the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, recognizes work as a fundamental right. It establishes that all persons shall receive equal pay for equal work, without discrimination. It guarantees the right to protection, safety and hygiene in the workplace. It also states that all persons capable of working have the right to decent employment.

Today we gather in this iconic Malcolm X Center in New York, a space that breathes history, resistance and hope. A place that, like our beloved Cuba, has witnessed struggles, sacrifices and victories. It is an honor to be here, surrounded by so many faces that have dedicated their lives to the noblest cause: solidarity among peoples.

In September 1960, Malcolm X and Fidel Castro forged an alliance of solidarity in Harlem. At the Theresa Hotel, where Malcolm ensured that Fidel was received with dignity in the midst of U.S. hostility, their dialogue transcended borders.
