Mr. President,

Dear Catherine Russell, Executive Director

Dear members of the Executive Board and other delegations.

I congratulate H.E. Mr. Jonibek Ismoil Hikmat, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations, on his election as President of the Executive Board for the year 2025, as well as the Vice-Presidents. We are confident that under his leadership, the work of the Board during this period will be successful.

Speech by the Cuban delegation in the informal interactive dialogue convened by the PGA on: “Preserving human dignity in armed conflict: promoting compliance with international humanitarian law.”

Mr. President,

We share the concern on the effectiveness and efficiency of International Humanitarian Law at the international level. A few months after the conclusion of the 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and, despite the efforts by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the global humanitarian scenario is not encouraging.

Speech by the Cuban delegation in the Thematic Debate on “Strengthening the accountability, transparency and institutional memory of the Office of the President of the General Assembly.”

Dear Co-Chairs,

We thank you for convening this debate to continue exchanging on the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly, the main deliberative and representative body of the United Nations.

My delegation aligns itself with the statement made by Algeria on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement and wishes to add the following comments in its national capacity.

Panel on: Development cooperation and sovereign financing priorities.

Questions:
As Cuba continues to implement its national development priorities, what types of technical assistance are most needed to navigate the complex financial landscape?

In addition, how can international development partners better align their programs with Cuba’s priorities to ensure effective and sustainable development cooperation?

Statement for the Security Council open debate on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Countering Terrorism in Africa”.

Mr. President:

We appreciate the convening of this open debate, chaired by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Attaf.

We recognize the role of Algeria in its chairmanship of the Counter-Terrorism Committee established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1373 (2021) and the importance it has attached to the exchanges with all Member States to prevent and combat this scourge.

Statement at the quarterly open debate of the Security Council on “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question”.

Mr. President,

We welcome the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, His Excellency Ahmed Attaf, as President of the Security Council.

Mr. Chair,

We appreciate the inclusion of this item on the agenda. We reiterate our congratulations to Iraq upon assuming the leadership of the Group. Iraq can count on our support in the exercise of its duties as Chair.

The G-77 and China has historically been a forum of solidarity and cooperation to address the common challenges we face and promote the well-being of our people.

Mr. President: 

We support Venezuela´s statement on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations.  

We appreciate the convening of this meeting and the presentations by the briefers, including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights.

Cuba subscribes to the statement made by Venezuela on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter. 

Over the past year, we have followed with great concern, dismay and shock the serious developments in the Middle East.
