Mr. President:

We appreciate the convening of this meeting to continue the discussions on an important issue on the United Nations agenda, such as Security Council reform.

Let me begin by congratulating the Permanent Representatives of Kuwait and Austria on their reappointment as Co-Chairs of the intergovernmental negotiations on the question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council and other matters related to the Council, during the 79th session of the General Assembly.

I’d like to deliver these remarks on behalf of Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, and my own country Cuba as GRULAC members of the UNICEF Executive Board.

Mr. President:

We support the resumption of this 10th extraordinary special session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Cuba cohosted and supported the draft resolution 30/Rev1, which was recently adopted by this Assembly, to promote the admission of the State of Palestine as a full Member State of this Organization of United Nations.

My delegation associates itself with the statement made by Venezuela on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter.

We appreciate the convening of this meeting on the impact of unilateral coercive measures on global efforts against terrorism, at a time when humanity is facing a complex and unpredictable international scenario, shaken by a multidimensional crisis, with growing global threats and challenges.

During our Chairmanship of the G77 and China, in 2023, we steered the Group and we provided inputs on the Chapeau and Chapters 1, 3 and 5, which represented valuable contributions from two thirds of the UN membership.
