Statement by H.E. Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, Ambassador and Special Representative for the Chairmanship of the G77 and China at the Meeting of Senior Officials of the Third South Summit.

It has been an honor for Cuba to assume for the first time the Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China. This has also meant assuming a great responsibility and challenge with all the humility, seriousness and commitment it required. We would not have been able to carry out this endeavor without the active support and contribution of all members of the Group. In this regard, I reiterate our deep appreciation for the support and confidence placed in Cuba.

Statement by Ambassador Yuri Gala López, Chargé d´Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, at the Resumed Tenth Emergency Special Session of the UN General Assembly.

Our position is clear. The current situation is the result of 75 years of Israeli practices of illegal occupation and colonization, in flagrant violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in their own territory; as well as the prolonged disrespect for the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, including numerous UN resolutions.

Statement by Ambassador Gerardo Peñalver Portal, first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, in the debate on the presentation of the economic context of Latin America.

Our efforts must be backed by concrete actions for market access, financing on fair and preferential terms, technology transfer and North-South cooperation. We demand a far-reaching transformation of the current international financial architecture, because it is profoundly unjust, anachronistic and dysfunctional; because it was designed to profit from the South stocks, perpetuate a system of domination that increases underdevelopment and reproduces a model of modern colonialism.
