Helms-Burton Act application against Cuba harms third countries

New York, 1 December 2020. From 17 April 2019, the United States Department of State decided to allow legal actions pursuant to Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which entered into force in 1996, under the name of Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act (LIBERTAD Act).

According to the Act, up to 31 March 2020, 25 lawsuits had been filed, out of which 3 were dismissed and 22 are still under way. This policy has affected companies from the U.S. and third countries that have done or do business with Cuba.

The application of unilateral coercive measures is contrary to the existence of a full culture of peace

New York, 1 December 2020. Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, participated today in the debate of agenda item 15 “Culture of Peace”. He reflected on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic around the world and how it has added new challenges and made existing ones more complex. He pointed out that the pandemic has highlighted the unjust nature of the international order in which we live, which multiplies the privileges of rich countries and perpetuates the shortages of the poor.

Cuba participates in Ibero-American foreign ministers' meeting

Havana, November 30, 2020. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez participates on Monday in the Special Meeting of the Ibero-American Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting is held virtually under the slogan 'Innovation for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal. Ibero-America facing the challenge of the Coronavirus.'
