Declaration of CubaMINREX: The United States strengthens its campaign against Cuba’s international medical cooperation

The Cuban people and the international community are aware of the dishonest campaign that the government of the United States has launched since 2019 to discredit Cuba’s international medical cooperation; exert pressure on the governments that have asked for it and deprive peoples of these health services.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba denounces that, as part of that offensive, the US government has unleashed an array of pressures and blackmails against the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO).

Mr. President,

Distinguished Permanent Representatives and guests,

We thank, on behalf of the Government of Cuba, the convening of this Summit on Biodiversity, in an extremely adverse context of global health crisis caused by COVID-19.

His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, recently warned that the pandemic has caused a 25-year setback in the search for solutions to important global problems.

The United States implements new measures to tighten the criminal blockade against Cuba

New York, 24 September 2020. Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced new measures to tighten the blockade against Cuba during an event “honoring” the mercenaries of the botched Bay of Pigs invasion, on 23 September 2020. These measures, already put into force by the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), are the following:

Díaz-Canel denounces increasing and bitter hostility of the US government towards Cuba

New York, 22 September 2020. The US government does not hide its intention to apply new and harsher aggressive measures against Cuba in the coming months. We declare one more, to the international community that our people, proud of its history and committed to the ideals and the work of the Revolution, will know how to resist and overcome, the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, vigorously stated at the General Debate of the 75th Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
