Cuba in UN

The blockade violates the right of the Cuban people to quality health care.

New York, September 25, 2018. Since the inception of the policy of harassment and blockade by the US government towards Cuba, its people and its Revolution, a line of action aimed at limiting access to food and medicine has been present, with the objective of forcing the Cuban people into surrender through hunger and disease. However, one of the priorities of the Cuban government has always been to guarantee the welfare of its population, including universal free health care as an inviolable principle.

The blockade affects the right to food of the Cuban people.

New York, September 25, 2018. The effects of the US blockade registered by the Cuban sectors of the Food Industry and Agriculture, between April 2017 and March 2018, amount to 413,793,100 dollars, which meant an increase of 66,195,100 dollars with respect to previous periods.

The President of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, addressed for the first time the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, held on the day before the high-level general debate of the 73rd Session of the UNGA.

New York, September 24, 2018. Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, participated in the high-level event "New perspectives on international cooperation for development" organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations, ECLAC, co-sponsored by the European Union and the Development Center of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Statement by the President of Cuba Miguel M. Diaz-Canel Bermudez in the “Nelson Mandela Peace Summit” at the UN General Assembly. New York, 24 September 2018.

Mrs. President:

We are so happy and take comfort in the fact that the United Nations General Assembly is convening a peace summit, and that such summit has been named after Nelson Mandela.

Less than 30 years ago, beloved Madiba was a political prisoner in the apartheid jails, serving a life sentence as a result of his noble struggle for justice and equality among all men and women in South Africa, where a white minority was subjecting the black majority to the scorn of segregation.
