G77+China demands right to development at the Future Summit
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reaffirmed the need to guarantee the recognition of the right to development for the countries of the Global South on the route to the Summit of the Future in 2024. Speaking at the preparatory meeting for that event, the head of Cuban diplomacy insisted on the right of the South countries to live without having hunger or poverty as a priority.
Cuba can be counted on, always, to defend multilateralism and promote the combination of peace and sustainable development for all.
I bring to this Assembly the voice of the South, that of the “exploited and humiliated”. Diverse peoples with problems in common - as we have just confirmed in Havana, which was honored to host a summit of leaders and other high representatives of the G-77 and China, the most representative, broadly-based and diverse group of nations in the multilateral sphere.
Statement by the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on behalf of the G77 at the Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals
The lack of progress must not be attributed to a lack of solutions. Actions are there. What it is urgently required is political will to really “leave no one behind” and overcome one of the most complex crises humanity has seen in the modern history. That would be our best contribution to the common future we need to build together.
