Cuba calls for the urgent mobilization of the international community to stop the Zionist military escalation and a direct attack by the United States against Iran
Havana, 19 June. The Cuban Government reiterates its deep concern and alerts to the imminent risk of intensification of Israel’s war against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the threat of a direct attack by the United States and the danger that the conflict could go nuclear or that radioactive leaks may occur with disastrous and devastating consequences for humanity.
Cuba Highlights Government Commitment to the Transcultura Programme, Now Approaching Its End
Paris, 18 June 2025. On the afternoon of 17 June, during an exchange with representatives of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana — led by Anne Lemaistre — and members of the Latin American and Caribbean diplomatic corps accredited to UNESCO, the Cuban Delegation reiterated the firm commitment of the Government and of Cuban cultural and educational institutions to the implementation and development of the Transcultura Programme, which has benefited the Caribbean Small Island States, including Cuba.
Participants recognized Cuba’s contribution as both a partner and beneficiary of the programme, and emphasized the facilitating role of the Cuban Government, while acknowledging the financial constraints faced by the island as a result of U.S. policies.
Exhibition on the “Transcultura” Programme Inaugurated at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris
Paris, 18 June 2025. The exhibition “Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity” was inaugurated on 17 June at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, as part of the results of this renowned programme funded by the European Union and implemented by UNESCO’s Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Havana.
Active participation of Cuba at COP10 of the 2005 Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions
Paris, 18 June 2025. Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to cultural diversity and international cooperation during the opening of the Tenth Conference of Parties (COP10) to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, taking place from 10 to 12 July at UNESCO Headquarters, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of this important instrument.
In its statement before the States Parties, the Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO highlighted the role of culture as a driver of human development and creative diversity, emphasizing the Island’s deeply humanistic and emancipatory vision, even in the face of the impact of the blockade.
Cuba participates in the 10th Meeting of the States Parties to the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage
Paris, 17 June. On 16 and 17 June, the Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO actively participated in the 10th Meeting of the States Parties (COP10) to the 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, held at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris.
During the meeting, the States Parties reviewed the progress made in the implementation of this Convention, which is unique of its kind at the international level, and discussed key actions to strengthen international cooperation and the effective protection of submerged cultural assets.
