Cuba participates in consultation meeting of IOC Electoral Group III on governance reforms
Paris, March 23, 2026. – The Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Cuba to UNESCO participated in the consultation meeting of Electoral Group III of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), held virtually, in coordination with the Sub-Commission for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (IOCARIBE).
The meeting aimed to exchange views among Member States on the ongoing processes related to IOC governance reforms, as well as on broader United Nations system reform dynamics with implications for the Commission's work.
Cuba and Panama convene GRULAC coordination meeting on UNESCO's Science sectors
Paris, March 19, 2026. – The Permanent Delegations to UNESCO of the Republic of Panama, in its capacity as coordinator of the GRULAC Working Group on Social and Human Sciences, and of the Republic of Cuba, as coordinator of the GRULAC Working Group on Exact and Natural Sciences, jointly convened the delegations of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) to their monthly working meeting.
The meeting aimed to exchange views among the region's delegations regarding the impact of the UNESCO80 process on the Organization's Science sectors, as well as to preliminarily address the issues related to both sectors included on the agenda of the 224th session of the Executive Board.

On March 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Costa Rica informed our Chancellery, by means of a Diplomatic Note and without offering any argument, of the unilateral decision to close that country's Embassy in Cuba.
Cuba intervenes on the UNESCO80 initiative at the preparatory meeting of the UNESCO Executive Board
Paris, March 17, 2026. – The Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO today intervened in the preparatory group meeting of the 224th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, during which the UNESCO80 roadmap was presented. This initiative will be examined by the Executive Board at its upcoming session in April.
During the exchange, the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Cuba to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, highlighted the leadership of the Director-General and the work of the Secretariat in preparing this proposal within a short period of time following the start of the new administration.
