The new Director-General of UNESCO, Dr. Khaled El-Enany, receives the Cuban Ambassador to the Organization
Paris, 9 January 2026 – Marking the beginning of a new biennium of work at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Organization’s new Director-General, Dr. Khaled El-Enany, held a cordial meeting with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cuba to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro.
During the exchange, both parties addressed the complex current international context, characterized by increasing geopolitical tensions and conflicts severely affecting entire regions. In this regard, the Cuban Ambassador denounced recent US military actions against Venezuela, describing them as violations of the United Nations Charter and International Law, as well as a threat to stability and peace in the region.
The Cuban Representative also thanked UNESCO for its traditional contribution to the annual report of the United Nations Secretary-General on the need to end the US blockade against Cuba. She noted that this contribution stands out for concretely evidencing the direct impact of the blockade in essential areas of the Organization’s competence, such as education, science, culture, and international cooperation, affecting both Cuba and regional initiatives for collective benefit.
Cuba's Strong Condemnation of Cowardly US Aggression Against Venezuela and Full Support for that Sister Nation Declaration of the Revolutionary Government
Havana, January 3, 2026.- The Revolutionary Government condemns in the strongest terms the military aggression of the United States against Venezuela, while categorically reiterating Cuba's absolute support and solidarity with the sister Bolivarian Republic and its government. It supports the address of the Executive Vice President, Comrade Delcy Rodríguez, and backs her demand that the United States government provide proof of life of the constitutional President Nicolás Maduro Moros and Comrade Cilia Flores, as well as the determination of the Bolivarian and Chavista government, and its people, to reject the aggression and defend their independence and sovereignty.
Cuban Parliament Approves Historic General Law on Science, Technology and Innovation

December 12, 2025. – On December 10, 2025, United States military forces assaulted an oil tanker while it was sailing in international waters in the Caribbean Sea, near the coast of Venezuela.
This act of piracy and maritime terrorism constitutes a serious violation of International Law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation. The United States government is responsible for the commission of these crimes, which harm the international community as a whole.
The Practice of Cuban Son Declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
Paris, 10 December 2025. – During the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in New Delhi, India, the practice of Cuban son was officially inscribed today on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This decision constitutes the highest international institutional recognition for this musical and dance expression, a fundamental synthesis of the African and Spanish heritages that forged the Cuban national identity.
