Vietnamese top leader’s Cuba visit of historical significance: Cuban Ambassador
The upcoming visit to Cuba by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam, a great friend of the Cuban people, Party, and Government, is important and of great significance, stated Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen.
The visit is very special, as it will be the first by a top leader of the Party and State of Vietnam to Cuba, the diplomat told Vietnam News Agency on the threshold of the visit.
Vietnam, Cuba see potential for trade growth
The state visit to Cuba by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam next week is expected to further strengthen the two countries’ bilateral relationship, fostering their sustainable trade development.
Cuba was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1960. In the period before 2019, bilateral trade grew at more than 20% a year. According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, their bilateral trade reached 155.5 million USD last year, with Vietnam's exports to Cuba accounting for the entire amount and no imports from Cuba to Vietnam recorded. In the first eight months of 2024, bilateral trade reached 134.7 million USD, up 187% year-on-year. Of this, Vietnam’s exports were valued at 133.36 million USD and imports 1.33 million USD.
Top leader receives Cuban ambassador
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam hosted a reception for Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen in Hanoi on September 19. The top leader asked the ambassador to convey his thanks to First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez for Cuba’s readiness to dispatch experts and doctors to Vietnam, helping the country deal with the devastating consequences of Typhoon Yagi.
Lam noted with pleasure the fruitful developments of the bilateral relations, and affirmed that Vietnam consistently treasures the solidarity and special solidarity between the two Parties, countries, and peoples.
Cuban foreign minister spotlights special relations with Vietnam
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla has reasserted the solidarity, special friendship, and fraternal bond between the peoples of Cuba and Vietnam while receiving Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long. At their meeting on September 13, Bruno Rodríguez highlighted the strong bilateral political exchange at the highest leadership level.
He once again extended his condolences to the Vietnamese people on the passing of late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who made significant contributions to the bilateral relations.
Vietnamese, Cuban lawyers foster cooperation
The Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) and the National Organisation of Collective Law Firms (ONBC) of Cuba signed an agreement to expand their legal cooperation at a ceremony in Havana on September 10.
Addressing the ceremony, ONBC President Lilia María Hernández Doejo thanked her Vietnamese colleagues for sharing valuable experience in the legal field. She expressed the solidarity of Cuban people with Vietnamese people over great human and material losses caused by Typhoon Yagi.
