Mauritius and Cuba for strengthening bilateral relations

Port Louis, August 17, 2023. The Special Envoy of Cuba, Mrs. Yoisy Ford García, paid a courtesy visit to the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. Alan Ganoo, at the Ministry headquarters.

The Cuban diplomat delivered an invitation from the President of Cuba, Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel, addressed to the Mauritian Prime Minister, H. E. Mr. Pravind Kumar JUGNAUTH, to attend the G77+China Summit on the topic "Current development challenges: role of science, technology and innovation" that would be held on September 15 and 16, 2023, in Havana, Cuba.

During the meeting, opportunities were also discussed to strengthen bilateral relations between Mauritius and Cuba in areas of mutual interest, including tourism, trade, investments, the medical and pharmaceutical sector, technical and vocational training, arts, culture, sports, youth affairs, health and community development.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the wish that Mauritius seek technical assistance from Cuba in the context of the creation of the International Slavery Museum in Mauritius.

Mauritius and Cuba work together in international forums, including the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) for coordinated solutions to global challenges from South-South perspectives and that respond to the special concerns of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked Cuba for supporting the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly on the Chagos Archipelago, which is an integral part of the territory of Mauritius, to complete the decolonization process of Mauritius and allow it to effectively exercise its sovereignty over the archipelago. The Special Envoy, for her part, expressed her gratitude to Mauritius for consistently voting in favor of the UN and African Union resolutions calling for the immediate lifting of the US trade embargo against Cuba.

Zimbabwe and Cuba advocate the consolidation of cooperation in the Biopharmaceutical sector

Harare, August 2, 2023. The Chargé d' Affaires a.i. of Cuba in Harare, Yoisy Ford García, was received at the headquarters of the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technological Development of Zimbabwe, by the Permanent Secretary, Professor F. Tagwira. Actions that consolidate the continuity of cooperation in the Biopharmaceutical sector and the possibility of venturing into other areas of interest to both countries were specified.

Harare, June 26, 2023. The President of Zimbabwe, Hon. Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa received Chargé d' Affaires a.i. Cuban, Yoisy Ford Garcia.

The Cuban representative delivered President Mnangagwa a letter of invitation from his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to participate in the Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the G-77 + China. The Zimbabwean President thanked the invitation to such an important Summit and expressed that it would be an honor to visit Cuba and participate in the event.

During the exchange, the good state of bilateral and commercial relations was highlighted. The interest of both nations in continuing to diversify cooperation in sectors of common interest, namely; Agriculture, Primary and Secondary Education, Culture, Sport among others.

The Cuban diplomat expressed gratitude Zimbabwe for its valuable support in Cuba's battle against the US blockade and in the spaces for international consultation. She repudiated the sanctions of Western countries against the Austral nation. Cuba and Zimbabwe have repeatedly highlighted their willingness to continue strengthening joint work as it allows them to develop societies and evade illegal imperial coercive measures.

Díaz-Canel summons a Summit in Havana of the G-77 + China

The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in his capacity as President Pro Tempore of the G-77 + China Group, convened a Summit of Heads of State and Government under the theme "Current development challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation", on September 15 and 16, 2023, in Havana.

According to a message posted this morning on his Twitter social network account, the Head of State said that "the occasion should serve to strengthen our unity and decide on collective and practical actions to effectively confront contemporary challenges."

Zimbabwe highlights Cuba's contribution in the health sector

Harare, 14.06.23. The Chargé d´Affaires a.i. of Cuba in Zimbabwe, Yoisy Ford García, was received by the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Honorable Dr. J. C. Mangwiro, at the headquarters of the Zimbabwean Ministry of Health. The head of the Cuban Medical Brigade, Dr. Bárbara M. Reina Vargas, was also present.
