Cuba was present in the 25th session of the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority.

Kingston, Jamaica, 27 July 2019. The 25th session of the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority was held from 22 through 26 July, 2019 at the Jamaica Conference Centre.

Within the framework of this meeting, the Secretary General’s Annual Report, the Finance Committee’s Report, the High-Level Action Plan and the Performance Indicators for the Implementation of the 2019-2023 Strategic Plan, among other important documents, were approved. A special commemorative session for the 25th Anniversary of the organization was also held on July 25.

We in the Jamaica Peace Council are saddened by the loss of Ambassador Elinor Felix who was devoted to the Vision and Mission of a peaceful world. Elinor, the shortened French version of Eleanor,  is an uncommon name for a most uncommon human being. It is uncanny how much she embodied the meaning of her name which we came across on two websites.

Whatisthemeaningofname.com defined Elinor as one with a friendly nature and a desire to please. The website also says, among other things that Elinor is expressive, diplomatic and easy-going.

Words are inadequate to express the deep sense of personal loss and regret that we feel, at the passing of Elinor Felix, former ambassador to Cuba, consummate public servant and a devout servant of humanity.

Our hearts are deeply saddened, as although we were very aware of her courageous battle against the dreaded disease, the finality of not having her around to use a cricket analogy, ‘hit us for six’.
